HEALTH IS WEALTH
HOW TO LIVE A HEALTHY LIFE?
PART-5
Use Your Vacation Days: With such a busy
schedule, the idea of taking a vacation can seem like more work than it's
worth. But Thomas urges you to use your paid time off. "Our culture
celebrates martyrdom," she says. "Working hard at the expense of your
own well-being is the dominant message in the workplace. No matter how much you
love your job, taking a vacation is important. Rather than saving up your
vacay days, find a cool wellness retreat to attend or even plan a plush
stay-cation in your city or in a town you've always wanted to visit.
Avoid habits
like smoking, chewing tobacco, drinking alcohol or taking drugs. This is
one of the main reasons that youngsters nowadays are more at a verge of death.
·
Avoid Smoking: Smoking ruins your health, sooner or later. The
addictive nicotine in cigarette can cause Cancer, lung diseases and heart. Smoking “lite” cigarettes do not decrease health
risks either. If you’re a smoker, quit not just for yourself, but for your
family and friends. If you don’t smoke, stay that way and don’t start.
Just relax: Sometimes it’s beneficial to stop, take a deep breath, and
relax. You can help maintain your physical and mental health by decompressing
from a long, stressful school or work week.
Try some relaxing activities to help you relax. Take advantage of meditation, listening to music, reading, watching a comedy, or exercising. These activities can help you unwind and they cause feelings of happiness and clam.

Even just one day off is a
necessary reset."
Be One With Nature: Whether
that means taking a break from your office to stand outside in the sunshine,
waking up a little earlier to take a walk around your neighborhood, or
beelining it to the beach at morning’s first light, it’s all good. The health
benefits of nature are well documented, with studies suggesting being outside
can ease depression, improve focus, increase creativity, and even strengthen
your immune system.
Smile and laugh out
loud several times a day. It keeps you grounded, and
helps you cope with situations that would otherwise make you crazy. Read the
comics, watch a sitcom, or tell jokes to bring out those happy feelings.
Meditate, pray, or
otherwise find solace for at least 10-20 minutes each day. Contemplation
is good for your soul, helps you cope with the demands of daily life, and may
even help lower your blood pressure.
Love yourself. Self-love is a crucial part of living a healthy life.
When you have a negative self-image, it naturally weighs down on your mental
outlook and health. How much do you love yourself on a scale of 1-10? Why? How
can you love yourself more starting today?

Purge negative people from your life. Positive mental
health is part of a healthy life. You don’t need toxic people in your life. If
you feel that a friend is overly critical or negative, let him/her
go.
Pick up a new hobby. Having interests outside of family and work will make you
feel more fulfilled.
Don’t care about what other people think. It’s not worth expending your energy
on the opinions of others. Be true to yourself, and you’ll attract people who
genuinely like and value you for who you are.
What else to do for mental peace:
· Take
a walk and reflect on what you see and hear at least several times per week.
· Try
something new and often (eat a new food, try a different route to work, go to a
new museum display).
· Do
some mind exercises (read, do a puzzle occasionally during the week).
· Try
to focus on a process intensely and complete a segment of it over 1 to several
hours, then take a break and do something relaxing (walk, exercise, short nap).
· Plan
to spend some time talking with other people about different subjects.
· Try
to make some leisure time to do some things that interest you every week
(hobby, sport).
· Have
fun (go on a trip with someone you love, go shopping, go fishing; do not let
vacation time slip away).
· Let
yourself be pleased with your achievements, both big and small (develop
contentment).
· Have
a network of friends; those with strong social support systems lead healthier
lives.
· Seek
help and advice early if you feel depressed, have suicidal thoughts, or
consider harming yourself or others.
People
taking medicine for mental health problems should not stop taking these
medications, no matter how "well" they feel, until they have
discussed their situation with their prescribing doctor(s).
We should have a habit of a regular checkup from a doctor.
As some diseases don’t show up as symptoms until it is too late. Get regular
blood tests for blood sugar, vitamins, and minerals, along with urine
tests. More elaborate tests like mammograms (for women), PAP smear (for women),
colonoscopy, etc. should be done at the recommended intervals. If the test
results are not optimal, that means that you can quickly take corrective
action. If they are great, that’s fantastic and you can have peace of mind!
Also don’t forget to
visit your dentist.

· Avoid passive
smoking. Second-hand
smoking (breathing in air from smokers) causes many of the same long-term
diseases as direct smoking (Wiki). Did you know? According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), there is no risk-free level of
passive smoking; even brief exposure can be harmful to health. Get away
from smokers and avoid cigarette smoke where you can.
· Control
Your Drinks:
Alcohol
may relax you after a hard day’s work, but it also reduces the number of white
blood cells (WBC fights germs) and thereby indirectly weakens the immunity system.
Chronic, excess alcohol consumption is the major cause of liver cirrhosis whuch
can also lead to liver cancer.
· Avoid excess
dieting. It is seen that with the growing
modern world and society, adults are being more and more fascinated to have a
slim and fit body. And IN order to achieve that they practice
dieting. Dieting excessively may result in heavyweight loss and even
anorexia.
End notes:
A healthy life
is the highest blessing which must not be taken for granted. It is truly the
source of all happiness. Money may buy you all the luxuries in the world but it
cannot buy you good health. You are solely responsible for that, so for your
well-being and happiness, it is better to switch to a healthy lifestyle.
